Let's Eat by Kitty Kaufman
What a great location: right on University Avenue in the Hillcrest section, steps from Whole Foods and a hundred other places to eat and drink. At Taste of Thai you'll find white tablecloths with service to match. If you're reading this before the end of May, there's a 20% coupon for both the Hillcrest and Del Mar locations good for 20% off lunch or dinner when you dine in.Michele recommends the yellow curry with tofu; The Thin Man went for the grilled Thai chicken with sweet and sour sauce; and the prosaic but tasty chicken with broccoli in oyster sauce, yes, that was me. They also serve the coldest beer.
Appetizers: wings, fried tofu, tod mun, mee krob, calamari. Salads: larb, Thai sausage, som tum: green papaya with dried shrimp; and yum nuah which is grilled steak, chili, lime and mint. Entrees include your choice with a variety of sauces and vegetables. Curries: red, yellow, green, choochi and panang.
Lunch specials weekdays till 3 come with soup, salad, spring roll and fried wonton. Lunch: fried rice any way you want it, noodles ditto, colorful curries, basil hot and sweet.
