Corner Bakery: The Thin Man Returns

At the University Towne Centre Mall (east of La Jolla, near UC-SD campus) another Corner Bakery is ready for breakfast: eggs scrambled to order (170 cal), French toast (brioche, custard with eggs and bacon is 1,190); oatmeal (160 cal); berries with yogurt (390 cal).

Nope, not a mind reader. Corner Bakery lists calories for everything.

I had the club panini with turkey, bacon and tomato but without the cheddar (saved 200 of the 730 calories) and The Thin Man had the California grille with zucchini, artichoke, tomatoes,pesto, spinach and provolone (600 calories). You couldn't call the filling hefty but it's tasty.

Plenty of salads: Chicken salad with apples; tuna with basil and onions; edamame with tomatoes, peppers and onions; fruit (just 70) and mixed greens (110 and that's before the dressing, right?) Pasta will take you over the line with the pesto (1,140) or the carbonara (1,190) and if you have the garlic bread, that's another 110.

Order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Outside there are heat lamps that you need in San Diego in May. Inside is noisy. Outside could be quiet if the Mall didn't insist on piping music everywhere. It's a California thing that's become catchy. We also hear it at the Legacy Place Mall in Dedham, MA. Oh well.
