Acqua Salon: Head Masters
Shop Girl by Kitty Kaufman
If I hadn't had a hair cut the day before, I would have plunked myself into a chair at Acqua Salon and ordered up the works. When I met co-owners Richard Senesi and Daniel Gutierrez at their airy Gloucester Street salon last week, I was enchanted. But there was simply nothing left to cut so I just watched them work.Whether you're thinking about a total makeover or just a little off the sides, settle in and relax. Here the watchwords are "it's all about you." Despite a clientele that includes ladies who lunch and sports figures, there is nothing pretentious and no attitude at all.
"We think a consultation comes first," suggests Senesi. "Summer's over so you'll want to tone down the sun's effect," Gutierrez added. What an idea: spending well-chosen moments talking about what you want with professionals who want you to be happy. Senesi has 30 years of salon experience and Gutierrez is a haircutting educator and color specialist.
One of Acqua's new services for the frizzy set is chi transformation (catatonic hydration interlink is its official name). "This straightening process will smooth curls and waves into silky controlled locks," Senesi said. Chi is an addition to their roster of chemical relaxing treatments.
Along with cuts, color, relaxing, extensions, glossing, and special occasion styling, the salon offers nail services. Have a manicure, French or otherwise, paraffin hand treatment, or just change your polish. It includes hand and arm exfoliation and aromatherapy massage. Pedicures comprise aromatherapy soak, sea salt scrub, massage and polish. Their spa treatment adds a warm paraffin treatment.
"We do everything from avant garde styling to roller sets," Senesi said. Once you're transformed, take the salon look home with products by Mop, Aquage, and Sexy Hair. They also carry the Opi line of nail treatments and polishes.
