Cambridge: Tatte Bakery

Let's Eat by Kitty Kaufman

Tatte head cookie is Tzurit Or in her new inside/outside space near Kendall Square. (They're also on Beacon Street in Brookline.) Le bébé got her first real bakery nosh, tiny butter cookies that are fist-sized for toddlers. Although she flings most food around to spec its aerodynamics, these did not go flying and she did not share. We split a slice of Belgian chocolate mousse cake with a chocolate walnut crust. Although we tried very hard, we couldn't eat it all and we didn't share ours either.

For breakfast there are eggs that are poached ; in shakshuka, a North African dish with peppers; with spinach and onion; and in a sandwich with cheddar and bacon.

Lunch: pâté, tarte tatinin tomato, onion and eggplant flavors; quiches in tomato, onion, potato and zucchini and vegetable frittatas in sweet potato, zucchini or cauliflower. There are soups, salads and sandwiches; we are smitten with mozzarella and meatball, plus kids can have their grilled cheese with mozzarella, tomato and bacon. Will they serve it to tall people?

Dinner at Tatte has carryovers from lunch plus chicken livers in a berry sauce, mushroom risotto with spinach, pâté with honey and pine nuts. Three salads will fill your vegetable quota: wheat berries, apples, basil, walnuts, carrots, raisins, mint, almonds, arugula, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. Not all together of course.

There is an urban report from Jackie Mo that leftover pastries go on sale after 7 pm: Food Porn Fridays. Sounds like a plan.
