Epicurean Feast in Maynard Bullies
Shop Girl by Kitty Kaufman
Everyone's tweeting about bullies. Google has four million references on the subject of bullies and 23 million if you want to read what everyone else has to say about "bully."That's how I found out that in San Diego you can eat at a place called Bully's that opened in the '70s. I did a little research and it turns out the owner's name is Bullington. They're no slouches when it comes to self-promotion. The website raves about the restaurant's "overnight success," prime rib "cooked to your individual taste," and how they innovated late night dining by having food available until 12:15 am. Seriously, in San Diego this is still a big deal?
Bullying, or social aggression (100,000 references) is on the road, at work, on the phone, even around the table at dinner parties. And like Meg Ryan lamenting her inability to come up with snappy rejoinders to Tom Hanks in "You've got Mail," whatever I say, will it be my fault?
When you're trying to collect a paycheck from them, it's all your fault you asked where the check is.
Nitwits are less commonplace . . . 350,000 Google results. If nothing else, and there is nothing else, they are a learning experience. They self-describe as being family-owned with a "distinctive reputation." I'll say. Bragging rights: " Nobody hides behind their titles or avoids the tough stuff." When I have to choose if mean girls are stupid or evil, I always go with stupid. This time, it's stupid and evil bullies.
